Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Ltd, an integrated offshore rig builder located in Yantai, Shandong Province, P.R. China, has cut the first steel on a D90 Frigstad Deepwater semisubmersible. The D90, is being built for Frigstad Deepwater’s subsidiaries. The D90 was designed by Frigstad Engineering and will be operated upon completion, by Frigstad Offshore. Frigstad’s D90 design is capable of operating in water depths of up to 12,000 feet and drilling to 60,000 feet. The units have DP3 positioning capability and has a dual hydraulic drills, supplied by National Oilwell Varco. With the steel-cutting just complete, Frigstad Offshore says that it is evidence that the project is on schedule.
