Ten oil spills caused by debris-damage to oil and gas pipelines and tanks during recent flooding are being tracked by state and federal regulators.
Eight spills are ‘minor’ according to Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission guidelines.
‘Anadarko Petroleum Corp. reported two larger releases in Weld County Wednesday. About 125 barrels spilled — or 5,225 gallons — into the South Platte near Milliken. A tank farm on the St. Vrain River released 323 barrels — about 13,500 gallons — near Platteville,’ the Denver Post reported Thursday.
Anadarko, one of the biggest operators in the flood-ravaged Denver-Julesburg Basin in Weld County, recovered about a quarter of the 165 barrels spilled in Milliken using absorbent booms and a vacuum truck.
The state Thursday sent out six teams of inspectors and environmental protection specialists to look for spills and damage.
There are 20,500 operating wells in Weld County, 321 wells in Boulder County, 97 wells in Broomfield County and 253 wells in Larimer County, the Denver Post said.
