Ensco PLC has taken delivery of Ensco 120, built in Singapore and contracted to work for Nexen Inc. in the North Sea. The rig will begin service in the fourth quarter of 2013 at a day rate of about $230,000 plus cost adjustments.
The Ensco 120 is first in its series of three ultrapremium, harsh-environment jack up rigs.
The rig was constructed at the Keppel FELS yard in Singapore, and is an enhanced versions of the Keppel FELS Super A design. Super As are capable of operating in water depths up to 400ft.
Ensco 121, the second rig in the series, is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter and is contracted to work for Wintershall AG, also in the North Sea.
In jack up trials, the rig set a shipyard record when it was jacked up successfully to 539 ft on its 540-ft legs. The rig also successfully hoisted a 2.5-million-lb hook load at its full cantilever extension.
