Chevron Corp. said Jon Huntsman has been elected to its board of directors.
Huntsman, 53, served as governor of Utah from 2005 to 2009.
He won re-election in 2008 with nearly 78% of the vote and left office with approval ratings over 80%.
The Mandarin-speaking Huntsman was the U.S. ambassador to China from 2009 to 2011, and to Singapore from 1992 to 1993.
He made an unsuccessful run to be the Republican nominee for the 2012 presidential election.
His term on Chevron’s board starts January 15.
He also sits on the board of Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT), Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F), and Huntsman Corp. (NYSE: HUN), the chemical giant based in Salt Lake City founded by his father.
