BP’s latest financial results has revealed that it sold $38 billion worth of assets to pay for the Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

BP has filed over a dozen motions in US courts related to the clean up and costs related to the spill. These motions were filed after the company reached a settlement with the US government to compensate harmed parties in the disaster.

Since the incident, the company has paid out $42.4 billion charges relating to the oil spill.

Also in the results, the company said it has raised its overall cumulative charge for the spill from $42.4 billion to $42.5 billion.
