LNG Gas terminal Melkøya
Statoil has shut down production from its Snohvit LNG plant in northern Norway following a gas leak.
A pump failure at the processing facility of the plant caused the leak to begin late Sunday night.

The plant is located on the island of Melkoya off Hammerfest.

A spokesman from Statoil stated the system was subsequently depressurized in line with standard procedures

The plant will remained offline while work to rectify the technical issue is continuing.  The company is expects output will resume “fairly soon”.

Production as Snohvit began in 2006, and has been plagued with technical difficulties since beginning operations.
