Two expatriates were found dead on Thursday just outside an oil and gas facility in western Libya.

According to Libyan officials, the bodies of a male British national and female New Zealander were discovered next to their luggage near an oil and gas complex outside the western city of Sabratha.

Both had sustained gunshot wounds.

A Libyan official speaking anonymously stated their possessions were not stolen, and the motive for the killing is still unclear.

A U.K. Foreign Office spokesperson commented,  “We are aware of reports that the bodies of two foreign nationals have been found in Libya and are urgently seeking further information from the authorities.”

The bodies has not yet been identified, according to the New Zealand foreign ministry.
