BP has begun returning staff to Algeria, but confirmed more security arrangements would be needed before expatriates return to In Amenas.
In January 2013 the In Amenas gas plant was attacked by Islamic militants.
Forty workers, mostly expats, were killed in the attack after militants took staff hostage during a siege that lasted four days.
The incident ended tragically when Algerian forces stormed the site.
“We do have some people back at In Salah but not at In Amenas. We are still trying to finalise the security arrangements that will be in place … but it’s all moving in the right direction,” said BP spokesman Robert Wine.
