Oil futures Monday traded in New York above $100 a barrel for their highest close of the year.
March crude oil was up 32 cents or 0.3%, to $100.20 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
On Friday, NYMEX-traded crude oil closed up 2.1% at $99.88 a barrel after an intraday high of $100.06.
On Monday, March contracts for Brent crude lost 63 cents, or 0.6%, to $108.94 a barrel on ICE Futures.
The unemployment rate fell to 6.6% from 6.7% in December, indicating a stronger economy and more energy demand.
