CNOOC Limited said Monday it made a mid-sized natural gas discovery at Bozhong 22-1 in Bohai.
The Bozhong 22-1 structure is located in south central Bohai with an average water depth of about 25 meters.
The discovery well Bozhong 22-1-2 was drilled and completed to a depth of 4,611 meters and encountered a gas reservoir with a total thickness of about 92 meters.
Gas production from the well tested at around 14.2 million cubic feet per day.
CNOOC — the China National Offshore Oil Corporation — is the third-largest national oil company in China, after CNPC and China Petrochemical Corporation. It’s the biggest China producer of offshore oil and gas.
The discovery at Bozhong 22-1 “demonstrates the good prospects of buried hills for future gas exploration of south slope in Bozhong Sag,” CNOOC said.
