Toyo Engineering Corporation was awarded a contract to build a regasification plant for Petronet LNG Ltd, India, Toyo said Tuesday
The plant is to be constructed at Dahej, in the State of Gujarat on the west coast of India.
The project will expand the LNG receiving capacity from 10 million tons to 15 million tons per year.
Toyo-India will lead the EPC work on a turnkey basis, from engineering to construction and commissioning, according to Toyo president and CEO Katsumoto Ishibashi.
The plant is scheduled to be completed at the beginning of 2017.
The Dahej Terminal — with an original capacity of 5 million tons per year — was the first LNG receiving terminal in India.
It was developed in 2000 by a consortium consisting of IHI Corporation, Toyo, Itochu Corporation, and Mitsui & Co., Ltd.
In 2006, IHI and Toyo received an order to expand the receiving capacity.
To meet India’s growing demand for natural gas for electricity and fertilizer, more than 10 additional LNG import terminals in the country are now planned.
