Brazilian Federal Police raided the Petrobras headquarters in Rio de Janeiro Friday as part of a money-laundering investigation.

Police were said to be exercising 23 search and arrest warrants in the cities of Sao Paulo, Campinas, Rio de Janeiro, Macae and Niteroi as part of its “Operacao Lava Jato”.

Operacao Lava Jato is Portuguese for “Operation Car Wash”.

The operation is part of a widespread investigation of currency exchange houses engaging in money laundering.

Petrobras said in a note that Federal Police agents were received by CEO Maria das Gracas Foster.

The officers ordered the company to turn over all documentation relating to “a specific contract”, two sources told Reuters.

Petrobras has not commented on details of the sought after contract.

One former Petrobras executive has already been arrested in Operacao Lava Jato.

A series of scandals have raised questions about the company’s high costs, management difficulties, and production delays.
