A six-member Dallas County jury awarded a Texas couple nearly $3 million Tuesday because of harm caused by fracking.

Robert and Lisa Parr sued Aruba Petroleum in 2010.

The couple alleged the company “intentionally created a private nuisance” by drilling, fracking and producing 21 gas wells near their Wise County home starting in 2008.

The jury award of almost $3 million was well below the more than $9 million the Parrs had asked for.

The trial lasted two-and-a-half weeks.

Lisa Parr alleged that a doctor found drilling chemicals in her blood and lungs.

Lawyers for the Parrs said this was the first fracking case to ever go to trial.

Lisa Parr also said she suffered from breathing difficulties, nausea, skin rashes, and lumps on her neck.

The jury didn’t impose any exemplary damages on Aruba.

The company said it plans to appeal the jury’s award.
