Odfjell Drilling is making 40 of its 50 staff redundant at its Stjordal offices in Norway, according to a report.

A spokesman for the Oslo-listed rig contractor said the “regrettable” redundancies were being made due to a lack of demand for drilling services on the Njord A and Heidrun platforms.

Production drilling has been ruled out at the Njord facility as its sub-structure is considered too weak to support heavy loads.

Work is currently underway to repair cracks found in the deck structure.

According to the company, the platform is set to resume production this summer for operator Statoil
