A Mississippi man serving a prison sentence for felony drug possession was indicted for filing a fraudulent claim against the Deepwater Horizon oil spill fund.
Brian Keith Lee, 40, was charged with fraud involving more than $47,000 he received in oil-spill recovery money, the Claims Journal said.
A federal indictment alleges Lee “received the money after he and a co-conspirator provided false information about lost earnings due to the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill,” the report said.
Lee filed a claim for lost wages from his customer service job with J.W. Consulting.
He said the company was doing business as Gulf South Seafood of Long Beach and Biloxi, Mississippi, the Claims Journal said.
He has pleaded not guilty.
Lee has been an inmate since January on a drug possession charge in Harrison County.
He has pleaded not guilty and is set for trial in May.
