The South African government has granted Oiltanking MOGS Saldanha (OTMS) environmental authorization for a 13.2 million bbl commercial crude storage and blending terminal.
The project is a joint venture between OTGC Holdings and MOGS.
The terminal will be located at Saldanha Bay, and be comprised of twelve in-ground concrete tanks.
Over the past two years, eight specialist studies were conducted to assess the environmental impact of the project.
OTMS also conducted a marine oil pollution control study.
The 12 tanks have a collection layers under them to collect oil in the event of a leak. Leaked oil will then be relayed to an underground collection point for routing to a nonleaking tank.
OTMS says this layer will be continuously monitored for potential leaks.
