Former BP CEO Tony Hayward has been appointed as chairman of Glencore Xstrata, the company said on Thursday.
Peter Grauer, the head of Glencore’s selection committee, said the appointment had been made after an extensive search process.
Hayward has been the group’s interim chairman since May 2013.
Grauer said, “Over the last twelve months, Tony has provided exemplary leadership of the board and proved himself to be the outstanding candidate to take on the role permanently.”
Hayward served as the CEO of BP from 2007 until 2010, when he resigned amid intense criticism after the Deepwater Horizon disaster.
