An Italian court has placed some Italian subsidiaries of Spain’s Gas Natural Fenosa under control of the courts after an investigation found evidence of activities related to organized crime, a press release from the Spanish company said.
Fenosa said this is a precautionary measure that will not affect the operations or the income statement.
“The move by the prosecutor of Palermo is aimed at avoiding mafia infiltration in the Italian subsidiaries of the group,” the the company said.
The decision of the judges in Palermo is limited to the Italy Spa Natural Gas, Natural Gas Distribution, Natural Gas Sale, and Italy Spa Spa companies.
“Our company cooperate with the Italian authorities and understand that what is happening is necessary to exclude the activities of organized crime from their business,” Reuters quoted a senior employee familiar with the details saying.
