Lukoil confirmed Friday that a helicopter has crashed in the Ghana coastal waters 3 miles from Takoradi.

Three fatalities have been confirmed and one person remains missing.

There were eight people onboard the helicopter including two crew members of the local airline and six representatives of several contracting service companies.

Four survivors have been transported to local hospitals for medical treatment.

No Lukoil employees were onboard.

The transportation helicopter was operated by the local airline carrier and chartered to Lukoil.

The helicopter was on a routine crew shuttle mission transporting contractor personnel from the airport in Takoradi to Transocean’s Jack Ryan drillship offshore Ghana.

A search and rescue mission has been launched with support from the Ghana Navy and Air Force to locate the missing person.
