Norwegian newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad reported this week that hundreds of employees working at Statoil received emails from management informing them of possible upcoming staff reductions.

labour organization Industri Energi told the paper that the emails encouraged employees to apply for vacant positions that were being advertised internally, severance packages, and early retirement programs.

The emails also said Statoil would be conducting an examination of the its needs and internal competence over the summer.

Employees can expect to receive news about their future in the company during the month of October.

According to Statoil spokesman Jannik Lindbæk Jr., severance and early retirement offers being made now hold the same terms as those offered earlier in the year.
