KCA Deutag announced Monday it has won a contract from Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) to construct and operate a new land rig in Brunei.

Bentec, the company’s onshore manufacturing division, will design and fabricate the rig.

Aberdeen-based KCA Deutag currently operates a 1500 horsepower rig in Brunei, the T-201.

President of KCA Deutag’s land division Andy Hendry said “This new rig for BSP is very high profile within Brunei, allowing exploration and development of deeper horizons.”

The rig is expected to be fully operational by late 2015.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.
