Aker Solutions is looking to cut up to 200 staff due to spending cutbacks by oil companies in the maintenance and modification (M&M) responsibilities of offshore platforms, local media reports say.

On Wednesday Aker Solutions held information sessions for employees working in M&M in Stavanger and Bergen, Norwegian state TV channel NRK reported.

Aker Solutions’ communications head Bunny Nooryani said, “We cannot rule rule out manpower cuts but will make every effort to find alternative solutions.”

She confirmed the workforce reduction could affect as many as 200 personnel.

The M&M business had been hit by lower activity in recent years as oil companies cut back on investments, according to Nooryani.
