Two thirds of the world’s oil and gas companies are hiring employees from competitors, a survey by Mercer LLC said.
Mercer surveyed more than 120 companies representing over 1 million employees across 50 countries, according to Cathy Proctor of the Denver Business Journal.
Her report said the global oil and gas industry is adding more than 500,000 jobs over the next five years.
There’s a particular shortage of skilled labor.
“There’s not enough people, even if you’re paying the top of the top of the wage scale, there’s not enough skilled candidates,” according to Mercer’s Kathy Dahlman.
“Petroleum engineers are No. 1 on everyone’s list for exploration and production, plant and operations engineers also are in high demand in both sectors,” Dahlman said.
