Seven workers at a Mexican yard were killed after an accident on a platform under construction.

The workers reportedly died after an elevator in which they were travelling on the facility plunged nearly 100 feet Wednesday.

The accident happened in Veracruz state on the Gulf of Mexico at a private fabrication yard that builds platforms for state oil giant Pemex, according to reports.

Five of the workers died on the spot and two later in a hospital, said Ricardo Maza, a state civil protection official.

Another worker is in a serious condition.that builds platforms for state oil giant Pemex.
