A worker was killed Monday at Suncor Energy’s oil sands site in northern Alberta while performing maintenance, a company spokeswoman said.
It is the fourth fatality this year at Suncor’s Canada oil sands site.
Spokeswoman Kelli Stevens said the man was an employee of North American Construction Group, which had been contracted to work on an area within Suncor’s base plant.
The plant is 15 miles north of Fort McMurray.
The man was severely injured at around 10 a.m. local time, according to a statement by the North American Construction Group.
He received first aid at the scene but was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The man’s name has not been released.
It is the fourth fatality this year at Suncor’s oil sands site.
