Qatar-based shipyard Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM) won two contracts worth US$110 million with Gulf Drilling International (GDI), N-KOM said on Wednesday.

N-KOM is a joint venture between Qatar-based Nakilat and Singapore-base Keppel Offshore & Marine.

The first contract is for the construction of a self-propelled, self-elevating liftboat customized for field transit in water depths up to 65 meters (213 feet) in the Middle East and North Africa.

The liftboat will be completed by the end of 2015, N-KOM said.

It will be designed by Bennet Offshore, the naval architecture and marine engineer arm of Kepple O & M, in collaboration with N-KOM.

The LB310-design liftboat will be able to provide servicing, commissioning, maintenance and decommissioning of offshore platforms.

It will be equipped with two deck cranes, an open deck space measuring 800 sqm (8611 sqft), a helideck and accommodation capacity for 130 people.

N-KOM also won a six-year repair and maintenance contract for GDI’s existing fleet of jack-up rigs operating in the Middle East.
