Petronas has set up a US$3.2 million seed fund to assist the government in providing support to families of those onboard Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 that was shot down over the Ukraine.

According to a statement, Petronas also called on all Malaysia business corporations from within and outside the oil and gas industry to pool their resources for the fund, “Care for MH017.″

Petronas said its management and staff are deeply saddened by the tragedy and conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those onboard the flight.

MH17 was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it was shot down in Ukraine.

All 298 people onboard the flight were killed.
