A Robertson County, Texas well exploded on Wednesday, critically injuring a worker and starting a large fire.

Robertson County Deputy Steve Misterek said a deputy arrived on scene where he found a severely burned man who had been working on the well.

The worker, whose name is being withheld, was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann hospital in Houston.

Emergency crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire after it burned for over 4 hours.

Officials said there may have been two explosions originating from a storage tank near an abandoned well.

The Texas Railroad Commission is investigating the incident.

The company operating the site has not been disclosed.
