London-based Celtique Energie’s exploratory drilling well in southern England has been blocked by the West Sussex county council, Reuters reports.

Citing concerns about noise and environmental impact, the council’s planning committee rejected Celtique’s application to explore for shale oil and gas in the parish of Winsborough Green, Reuters reports.

The rejection prohibits Celtique from drilling in the area for three years.

According to the company’s website, Celtique holds four exploratory drilling licenses for the Central Weald basin in southern England.
