UK-based upstream Hurricane Energy hit a “very good quality” reservoir Monday at its 205/21a-6 appraisal well off the western coast of the Shetland Islands in offshore Scotland.
Hurricane said post-well data analysis is mostly complete and estimates for single well delivery rates are at 20,000 stock tank barrels per day.
The results were “significantly ahead of initial expectations of well productivity,” Hurricane said.
The horizontal well was drilled to about 3,273 feet and is located on an oil column spanning an estimated 984 feet.
The well is located at Hurricane’s Lancaster Field oil discovery west of Shetland.
Lancaster is located in blocks 205/21a, 205/22a and 205/26b in water depths of about 524 feet.
Hurricane said the positive results mean that the early phase of field development and commercial production could start after only one additional horizontal well is drilled.
Hurricane wholly owns and operates the 205/21a-6 well and the Lancaster Field.
The Lancaster Field has estimated 2C contingent resources of 207 million barrels of oil equivalent.
