Brazil’s Petrobras said Thursday it hit a gas payzone while drilling an extension well at an ultra deepwater block in Brazil.
The well, informally known as Poço Verde 1, is located 36 miles off the coast of Aracaju at a water depth of 7,204 feet.
Petrobras said reservoirs containing “good porosity characteristics” were detected.
Estimated reserves for the well have not been released yet.
The well is located in the discovery evaluation plan area of Poço Verde in concession BM-SEAL-4.
The Poço Verde accumulation is part of the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin deep-water development program.
Petrobras is the operator of BM-SEAL-4 with a 75 percent stake. India’s ONCG holds a 25 percent stake.
