United Arab Emirates’ General Port Authorities halted the loading of all containers for export and transshipment bound for Libya’s ports Wednesday.

The instructions to stop the exports were issued on September 11

No official statement about the stoppage has been released yet, Washington-based logistics company Expeditors said.

Denmark-based shipping company Safmarine said that containers bound for Libya will be held at the port and will not be loaded for shipment.

The containers can be taken out of the port upon the shipper’s request after customs has released its hold.

Booking shipments from the U.A.E. to Libya through airline and ocean carriers have also been stopped.

Libya, a North African country and OPEC member, has been embroiled in the regional struggle between Islamic militants and their opponents.
