Oil billionaire Terry Pegula and his wife Kim were unanimously approved to be the new official owners of the NFL Buffalo Bills Wednesday.
The Pegula’s paid a record $1.4 billion for the Bills.
“I got a hell of a deal,” Terry Pegula said.
The Pegulas outbid Donald Trump for the team.
They already own the Buffalo Sabres, a NHL team.
The Pegulas said they will keep the team in western New York, a key factor in the approval decision.
Terry Pegula was chief of East Resources and is worth about $3.3 billion, according to Forbes.
In 2010, he sold most of East Resource’s assets to Shell for $4.7 billion.
In August, East Resources sold drilling rights on 75,000 acres in Ohio and West Virginia to Oklahoma-based American Energy for $1.75 billion.
Pegula said he still owns oil and gas assets in Colorado, Wyoming, New York, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
