Commercial production at the Cidade de Mangaratiba FPSO operated by Brazil’s Petrobras started up Tuesday at the offshore Lula field.
The field is located in the Santos Basin pre-salt area of Iracema Sul in block BM-S-11.
The Cidade de Mangaratiba is set up at a depth of 7,217 feet, about 149 miles off the coast.
The platform will be connected to eight production wells and eight injection wells during the coming months.
Production is expected to peak in the first half of 2016.
The Cidade de Mangaratiba will have the capacity to process up to 150 thousand barrels of oil and 8 million cubic meters of gas per day. It will also have a storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels of oil.
Well 4-RJS-647, the first to be connected to the FPSO, has a production potential of over 30 thousand barrels per day.
Petrobras said the oil produced at the Iracema Sul area is of high quality and of medium density.
The Santos Basin Integrated Gas Distribution Network will distribute the gas that is not used for reinjection in the field.
Petrobras operates block BM-S-11 with a 65 percent share. UK-based BG E&P Brasil holds a 25 percent share and Petrogal Brasil holds a 10 percent share.
In June, production at Petrobras operated fields in the Santos and Campos Basins surpassed 500,000 barrels per day, setting a new daily output record for the company.
