An accident on a Socar operated offshore oil and gas platform in the Caspian Sea left three workers dead Thursday after a repair platform collapsed.
Socar, Azerbaijan’s state owned energy company, said the platform collapsed during repair work, sending a small wagon-house falling into the ocean along with four unnamed workers.
Their bodies have been recovered.
The wagon-house also damaged a gas pipeline as it fell and set off a fire.
The blaze was extinguished within an hour, Reuters said.
At the time of the accident 41 people were aboard the platform. The 37 survivors were evacuated.
One worker is still missing.
“The search for another missing worker is under way,” Socar said.
The company has formed a commission to investigate the accident.
