Two oil rig workers died October 18 after an accident aboard the Ensco 104 rig chartered to SapuraKencana in offshore Malaysia.

The unnamed men were performing routine inspection work when their safety harnesses broke free and dropped them, Singapore’s Straits Times said.

Police officials said both men suffered fatal head injuries.

The accident reportedly happened about 152 nautical miles off the coast of Kerteh beach in the Kemaman district of Terengganu around 11:00 p.m. local time Saturday.

Police said the victims died at the scene and were airlifted to the Kemaman Hospital for postmortem examinations.

The examinations ruled out foul play and determined both cases were accidental sudden deaths.

Neither UK-based Ensco nor Malyasia-based SapuraKencana have commented on the incident.
