Chevron’s New Zealand unit won exploration rights for three offshore permits Wednesday.
The three permits – 57083, 57085 and 57087 – are located in the offshore Pegasus and East Coast basins and cover over 6.26 million acres in water depths of 2,600 feet to 9,800 feet.
All three permits are located southeast of North Island.
Chevron New Zealand Exploration will operate the permits with a 50 percent working interest.
Norway’s Statoil will hold the remaining 50 percent interest.
“This award adds to Chevron’s range of potential long-term options in the Asia-Pacific region,” Chevron Asia Pacific Exploration and Production president Melody Meyer said.
