France’s GDF Suez said Friday it made an oil discovery at well 22/16-6 in the UK North Sea.

The well, located on the Dalziel structure in license P1799, flowed in excess of 8,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Well 22/16-6was drilled in block 22-16 by the Transocean Galaxy II rig.

The well is now being side-tracked to appraise the extent of the discovery.

“This is another encouraging discovery by GDF Suez following on from a successful exploration campaign in 2014,” GDF Suez E&P UK managing director Ruud Zoon said.

GDF Suez operates the well with a 30 percent stake.

Germany’s RWE DEA holds a 25 percent stake, Japan’s JX Nippon Exploration and Production holds a 25 percent stake and France’s Total holds a 20 percent stake.
